Designed for MTD shared owners

Shared ownership is one of the least understood ways to own a home in the UK. MTD connected their records to Stairpay so you get straight answers about your own home, when you need them.

The tools to manage your home

Because MTD is connected, your account is filled in with real figures rather than estimates.

Your personal home dashboardYour figures and your documents in one place — value, share, equity, rent, service charge and the paperwork behind them, kept up to date by MTD.
Check whether you could reduce your rentUse the calculator to see what a bigger share would cost and what it would take off your rent — there is no pressure either way. If you do decide to go ahead, you submit through Stairpay against MTD's own process and recommended panels, and their team manages the application from there.
All your home questions, answeredAsk what a clause means or why your rent changed and get a straight answer, 24/7, from your own lease and your own figures.

Questions your neighbours are asking

Ask about your rent, service charge, lease or buying a bigger share of your MTD home.

Who manages my staircasing application?

MTD does. You put the application together and submit it through Stairpay, and the moment you do it goes to the MTD team who handle staircasing — they are the ones who approve the extra share and take it through to completion. Your account also shows you their process and who they recommend at each stage, so you are working to their steps rather than guessing at them.

Will my MTD home be on Stairpay yet?

It should be — MTD has connected their shared ownership records to Stairpay. If your address is not recognised, there is usually a simple reason. First, check you have selected the right landlord. Then check whether you already have an account and are trying to create a second one — logging in will tell you. If neither is it, email helpdesk@stairpay.com and we will look into it for you. If you have bought recently, there can be a short delay before your home's data reaches us, and we can check that for you.

Is Stairpay an official MTD service?

Yes. MTD partners with Stairpay to give their shared owners access to it, and the property data in your account comes directly from them — your home's value, the share you own, your rent and your service charge, as MTD holds them.

Do I still contact MTD directly for repairs?

Yes. Repairs, maintenance and anything to do with the building stay with MTD, and the way you report them has not changed. Stairpay is for understanding your home — your figures, your lease and your options — rather than for day-to-day tenancy matters.

Is Stairpay free for me?

Yes. Stairpay is always free for shared owners — MTD pays for the service, so that you have the tools and resources you need to make decisions about your home and your future with confidence. Buying a bigger share does have its own costs, such as the valuation and your solicitor, but those are paid to the people doing that work and never to us.

Can I use Stairpay if I'm not planning to buy more yet?

Yes. Stairpay is not just for shared owners looking to buy a bigger share. Creating your account today lets you track what your home is worth, keep an eye on your costs and test out scenarios for the future — and it is easier to do that from the start than to catch up later.

Very useful and easy to use

Stairpay gave me a clearer understanding of what level of staircasing might be affordable and helped me evaluate my options more confidently.
